Information is powerful. Power is confidence.
I believe information is powerful and power is confidence. This is why I donate my time to Second Saturday St. Paul every second Saturday of the month. I believe Second Saturday provides concrete information to individuals about the legal and financial issues faced in a divorce proceeding.
WHAT IS SECOND SATURDAY?
Second Saturday was started by a financial organization called Women’s Institute for Financial Education (WIFE) in 1989. The purpose of Second Saturday was to provide financial, emotional and legal support and resources for women going through the divorce process and to move forward after the divorce. While the emphasis of WIFE is on financial education for women, Second Saturday has evolved into serving and educating both men and women about the divorce process. You can find out more by watching this informational video.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND SECOND SATURDAY ST. PAUL?
Any person who is contemplating divorce, and would like to learn about the financial, emotional and legal aspects of divorce. Second Saturday is a great resource for individuals that cannot afford an attorney and yet do not qualify to be represented by non-profit organizations such as legal aid. General information and fictional case examples are given to attendees. It is a chance to ask general questions about the process in a non-threatening environment. Most attendees leave the session with more confidence about how best to handle their family situation.
WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF SECOND SATURDAY ST. PAUL?
The seminar begins at 9:00 a.m. Light refreshments are served at the beginning of the seminar. During the first hour of the seminar I discuss the legal process of a divorce and average costs of divorce. The second hour of the seminar is presented by Mark Hegstrom, AIF, CDFA (Certified Divorce Financial Analyst), of Waterfront Financial Group. Mr. Hegstrom presents on financial pitfalls/errors in a divorce settlement. He will provide case examples to illustrate the common financial pitfalls many families face. The last half hour is dedicated to general questions from the attendees. It is our goal to be resource for individuals who attend the seminar.
CAN I ENGAGE YOU AFTER THE SEMINAR?
While it is certainly not a requirement, some attendees wish to engage my services or Mr. Hegstrom as a certified divorce financial analyst. We welcome the opportunity to work with individuals from the seminar. As I discuss in the seminar, the client-attorney relationship must be right fit. Therefore, the first step after the seminar would be to set up an initial consultation. You can find out more on my website, www.BethBarbosa.com.
